ServiceIQ, the industry training organisation for tourism, is pleased to announce the lucky winners of the Tourism Aotearoa competition, held as part of the annual TRENZ tourism trade event held from 21-24 April 2013.
Paul Fuimaono of Indigenous Journeys, Henare Johnson of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development and Maurice and Heather Manawatu of Maori Tours in Kaikoura have each won ServiceIQ’s Tourism Aotearoa product for one of their staff. This specialised New Zealand tourism training package is blends Maori culture and Maori concepts with practical tourism skills.
The training programme, worth over $500, provides a uniquely New Zealand approach to staff development and customer service through understanding the visitor’s desire to experience Maori culture, language, stories and traditions.
It is ideal for New Zealand tourism operators and their staff to gain a base knowledge of Māori customs, place names and history.
The staff member who undertakes the training will earn while they learn, gain a national certificate and improve their tourism career as well as benefiting the business.
Paul Fuimaono from Indigenous Journeys says, “This product is a wonderful treasure. It is a great opportunity for both the trainee and the employer to actively create a developmental culture within the business.”
Tourism industry movers and shakers come together every year for TRENZ, a popular event that brings overseas buyers to look at New Zealand’s tourism offerings.
Around 1000 people attended, including 290 international travel buyers from 27 markets, 250 New Zealand exhibitors, global media, and New Zealand Prime Minister and Tourism Minister John Key.
