Young retailer wins award

10/10/2013

Winner of this year’s NZ Hardware Journal Young Retailer of the Year is Mark Buckenham, of PlaceMakers Pukekohe.

Mark is a strong supporter of staff up-skilling and many of the PlaceMakers Pukekohe team have completed ServiceIQ certificates and diplomas, which is likely a factor in the success of the store.

The NZ Hardware Journal says:

35 year-old Mark went to Pukekohe from Christchurch after 6 years at the ultra-high achieving PlaceMakers Riccarton store. The new greenfield store opened in July 2011 aiming to be “much more than a regular builders’ merchant”.

As Branch Operator, Mark is responsible for the day to day operation of this 5,370m2 store with diverse responsibilities across the 13-strong team (“a magnificent group of hardworking smart dedicated people”), financials (including posting a net operating profit after only 16 months’ operation, two years ahead of schedule) and customer and supplier relationships.

Mark leads from the front but applies a strongly teamwork-based culture which has helped PlaceMakers Pukekohe to achieve the highest rate of growth in the PlaceMakers group with its goal being to build the business to the point where it can be Joint Ventured.

ServiceIQ congratulates Mark and the team at PlaceMakers Pukekohe.
