Essential skills for gambling hosts

04/12/2014

If gambling is available at your venue, you must make sure that you and your staff have completed the right training to help protect your guests, your members, your team and your business. This is essential at all times, but especially with the busy holiday season ahead.

The right training is at your fingertips with ServiceIQ’s online course ‘Being a Responsible Gambling Host. www.serviceiqskillsonline.org.nz

Every establishment offering TAB and pokies facilities must meet strict gambling regulations.

Developed by industry for industry, the brief yet comprehensive ServiceIQ course is designed to help venue managers and staff to meet the problem gambling awareness requirements of both the gambling and the racing regulations.

These regulations require venues to always have a trained person available on the premises whenever gambling is available. Venues that fail to follow the rules risk letting down their guests and face fines for breaching the gambling rules.

Training covers different host responsibility requirements for venues with pokies and TAB outlets, and gives practical advice on talking to people about their gambling activities.

It includes:

  • minimising harm in gambling (including identifying problem gambling)
  • problem gambling services
  • responsible hosting.
