Farmers Gateway Programme
Kick-start a fantastic career with a famous Kiwi retailer!
This exciting new programme gives students a great opportunity to get in at the ground floor with Farmers, one of New Zealand’s oldest and most famous retail brands.
Specially designed for Years 12 and 13, students who successfully complete Farmers’ induction Level 2 programme will have a chance to continue as a workplace trainee, gaining more skills, knowledge and a great nationally-recognised qualification, the New Zealand Certificate in Retail Level 3.
How it works
Students accepted for this programme will receive placement at a Farmers store one day a week for ten weeks. They will be fully supported by a dedicated Schools Transitions Advisor who works with store management to ensure they gain an all-round understanding of the great world of retail.
Students will be supplied with learning resources and clear development plans from the Schools Transitions Advisor who will keep their school up to date. Students’ work will be assessed by ServiceIQ.

Programme details
The Farmers Gateway Programme is made up of 23 credits identified by industry as essential for the retail workplace. The programme involves pre-workplace support plus 10 days’ work experience over a two week holiday programme, or one day a week for 10 weeks with Farmers.
It costs $500 +GST per student and results in a certificate. The certificate is made up of a set menu of credits (see below) which can be used towards a nationally recognised New Zealand Certificate in Retail.
As part of the Farmers Gateway package each student will receive:
- learning resources and assessment materials
- coaching support and assessment through a dedicated Schools Transitions Advisor.
Students will need to supply their own black polo shirt, black pants and black shoes to wear on training days.
