Healthy Futures Gateway
A Student Experience Programme
Pharmacy retail is a vital part of Aotearoa’s health system. Every day, right across the country, the dedicated and caring people working in pharmacy retail are helping their fellow Kiwis. Whether it’s advice on a health issue that is worrying someone, supplying a key medicine they need, or finding a special gift for a loved one, the people working in our pharmacies are there to help. A career in pharmacy retail offers huge choice, a lifetime of possibilities, and healthy futures for customers and staff too.
Healthy Futures is a Retail Gateway programme that gives students a chance to get valuable work experience in pharmacy retail. They will gain skills, knowledge and experience that will give them a career head start in pharmacy or any other retail environment and help them move from school into a career. They’ll also be involved in an industry that is all about helping everyone get or stay healthy.
Students will gain credits that can be used towards a nationally recognised New Zealand Certificate in Retail. They’ll be supported all the way and learn important skills in line with industry standards including: serve customers face to face; product knowledge and information; sale of goods and services legislation; understanding theft and fraud in retail; and workplace health and safety.
How it works
Students will receive a placement with a Green Cross Health Unichem or Life Pharmacy. They will be fully supported by a dedicated Schools Transitions Advisor who works with store management to make sure they get an all-round understanding of the world of retail. Students will be supplied with learning resources, clear development plans and support from the Schools Transitions Advisor who will keep their school up to date. Students’ work will be assessed by ServiceIQ.
