Important: Changes to 2025 Readymade ServiceIQ Gateway Training

29/10/2024

As you may have seen in the media, the  Minister for Tertiary Education and Skills has set clear expectations that all Te Pūkenga business divisions, including ServiceIQ, need to be financially sustainable. Only by being sustainable can we continue to support the needs of our learners and industry partners.

In recent years, the provision of our Readymade ServiceIQ Gateway Training has generated an operating deficit. The fees charged for the programmes fall well short of the costs to deliver them. Whilst we have continued to subsidise the programme delivery for 2024, this is no longer feasible next year.

Our DIY and Aviation Gateway programmes will continue unchanged for 2025 however, our Readymade programmes will no longer be supported by a Schools Transitions Advisor. These programmes are predominantly in the retail sector.

This means that in 2025 responsibility for arranging the placements will be between the school Gateway coordinator and the workplace directly and ServiceIQ will no longer conduct workshops. A small number of programmes will be discontinued. Where possible, we will continue to facilitate connections between schools and local employers, through our Industry Engagement team. Your local Service Sector Advisor will be in touch in early 2025 to introduce themselves.

Pricing for our revised 2025 Gateway offering will be available within the next two weeks and we will communicate this in a separate edition of Glasshouse.

How does the new 2025 non-managed Gateway work?

If your school needs ServiceIQ to assess, then the process is:

  1. School Gateway coordinator registers student/s via the revised 2025 Student Registration Form.
  2. The Student Registration Form is emailed to schools@serviceiq.org.nz.
  3. Our Customer Support team will order the resources required and these will be sent directly to your school.
  4. At the end of each month, ServiceIQ will generate an invoice and send it to your school for payment.
  5. The school Gateway coordinator will send the assessments into ServiceIQ to assess.
  6. The results are confirmed with your school and your school reports the units to NZQA. If your school has a signed MOU with ServiceIQ then you can use our provider code to report the units to NZQA.
  7. A certificate will be sent to your school.

If your school has its own accredited assessor/s then the process is:

  1. School Gateway coordinator orders resources via the ServiceIQ online shop.
  2. The resources are printed and sent directly to your school.
  3. Your school assesses and reports the units to NZQA. (For Level 2 and below units, your school can use its own provider code.)
  4. Your school can print its own certificate or request one through ServiceIQ (fee payable.)

What happens to students still on ServiceIQ Gateway programmes in Term 4 2024?

Largely, no change. Our current Schools Transitions Advisors will be in touch, and they will continue to support students through until the 20th of November 2024. For students continuing beyond this date, the Schools Transition Advisor will discuss arrangements with you to get Gateway assessments through to our ServiceIQ office for marking. We will continue to assess every 2024 Gateway participant as normal.

Next steps

We appreciate the changes to the delivery of the ServiceIQ Gateway programmes will impact the way your school facilitates Gateway placements. While we are unable to continue with our current offering, our commitment is to continue providing high quality learning and assessment materials as well as a full assessment service through 2025.

As mentioned, Gateway pricing and further details will be provided over the coming weeks but if you  have any queries in the interim, please email our team at schools@serviceiq.org.nz
